4 slices of thick-cut bread (sourdough or whole grain work best)

4 large eggs

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)

Salt and pepper to taste

Prep the Bread: Start by spreading softened butter on one side of each slice of bread. This will help them achieve a beautiful golden crispiness.

    Assemble the Toast: Place the unbuttered side of each slice of bread facing up on a flat surface. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese on top of each slice, making sure to cover them evenly.

      Create a Nest for the Egg: Using the back of a spoon, create a slight indentation in the cheese on each slice to hold the egg in place.

        Add Eggs: Crack one egg gently into the indentation on each slice of toast. Be careful not to break the yolk, if you prefer it runny.
