Ingredients

4 medium apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon nutmeg

1 cup rolled oats

½ cup all-purpose flour

½ cup brown sugar (for the crumble topping)

½ teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

A pinch of salt

Optional: Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Apples: In a mixing bowl, combine the diced apples with lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Make the Crumble Topping: In another bowl, mix together rolled oats, flour, the remaining ½ cup of brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add in the cubed cold butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to combine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Assemble the Layered Dessert: Take your serving glasses and start layering. Spoon a generous layer of the apple mixture at the bottom of each glass, followed by a layer of the crumble topping. Repeat the layers until the glasses are filled, finishing with a crumble layer on top.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the filled glasses on a baking sheet (to catch any overflow) and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the apples are bubbling and the crumble topping is golden brown.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.
