Ingredients

4 slices of thick-cut bread (such as brioche or challah)

2 large eggs

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon sugar

1 medium apple, peeled and diced (preferably a tart variety like Granny Smith)

1 tablespoon butter (for cooking)

Maple syrup, for serving

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar until well combined.

Add the Apples: Gently fold in the diced apples to the egg mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.

Cut the Bread: Slice each piece of thick bread into 1-inch-wide strips (making dippers). You should have about 12-16 dippers depending on your bread size.

Heat the Pan: In a large skillet or griddle, melt the butter over medium heat until bubbly and slightly golden.

Dunk and Cook: Dip each strip of bread into the egg-apple mixture, allowing it to soak for just a few seconds on each side. Transfer to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

Serve: Remove the dippers from the skillet and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess butter. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar if desired, and accompanied by maple syrup for dipping.

Enjoy! These dippers make for a delightful breakfast or brunch option, and they can even be served as a fun snack!
