Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

6-7 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp blend recommended)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the Brown Sugar Oat Topping:

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

    Prepare the Apple Filling:

      - In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and flour. Toss everything together until the apples are well-coated.

        - Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.

Make the Brown Sugar Oat Topping:

            - In a separate bowl, mix together the rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt.

              - Pour the melted butter over the oat mixture and mix with a fork or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

                Assemble the Crisp:

                  - Evenly sprinkle the brown sugar oat topping over the prepared apple filling in the baking dish.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are bubbly and the topping is golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Once done, remove the crisp from the oven and let it cool for at least 10 minutes. This will allow the juices to set a bit. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
