Ingredients

2 cups rolled oats

1 cup unsalted nuts (walnuts or almonds), roughly chopped

1 cup dried apples, chopped

1/2 cup honey or maple syrup

1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/4 cup peanut butter or almond butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal later.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the rolled oats, chopped nuts, chopped dried apples, ground cinnamon, and salt. Stir until all ingredients are well mixed.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a smaller bowl, whisk together the honey (or maple syrup), applesauce, peanut butter (or almond butter), and vanilla extract until smooth and fully combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Pour the wet mixture over the dry ingredients. Stir everything together until the dry ingredients are evenly coated and mixed well. If desired, fold in the mini chocolate chips for extra sweetness.

Transfer to Baking Pan: Spoon the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Use a spatula or your hands to firmly press the mixture down until it’s even, compact, and well-packed.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges start to golden and the center is set.

Cool and Cut: Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool completely in the pan for about 30 minutes. Once cooled, lift the granola slab out using the parchment overhang and place it on a cutting board. Cut into bars or squares as desired.

Store: Store the granola bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, or in the refrigerator for longer freshness.
