When preparing Smoky Maple Glazed Baked BBQ Chicken Breasts, the initial baking step is crucial for achieving tender, juicy chicken. Covering the baking dish with foil during the first portion of cooking helps to retain moisture, creating a steamy environment that prevents the chicken from drying out. This method is particularly beneficial for boneless, skinless chicken breasts, which can easily become overcooked and tough.

Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 cup barbecue sauce (preferably low-sugar for a healthier option)

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

2 teaspoons smoked paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. This helps the glaze stick better.

Make the Glaze: In a medium bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well combined.

Coat the Chicken: Place the chicken breasts in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Pour half of the glaze over the chicken, making sure to coat both sides evenly.

Bake the Chicken: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.

Add More Glaze: After 20 minutes, remove the foil and baste the chicken with the remaining glaze. Return the chicken to the oven, uncovered.

Finish Baking: Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) and the chicken is cooked through. You can also broil the chicken for an additional 2-3 minutes for a caramelized finish.

Rest and Serve: Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
