Ingredients

6 large croissants (preferably day-old for better texture)

200g sliced ham (preferably honey-baked or smoked)

200g shredded Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese)

100g cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, Dijon mustard, chopped chives (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined.

      Assemble the Croissants:

        - Carefully slice each croissant in half horizontally.

          - Spread a generous tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture on the bottom half of each croissant.

            - Layer 2-3 slices of ham over the cream cheese.

              - Top with a handful of shredded Gruyère cheese.

                - Replace the croissant tops, gently pressing down to secure them.

Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the filled croissants with the beaten egg to give them a lovely golden color when baked.

Bake: Place the assembled croissants on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, perhaps with a side salad or some pickles for a delightful contrast.
