Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 pound ground pork

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

1 large egg

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Preheat and Line: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Mix the Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, garlic, salt, black pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Use your hands to mix until just combined—be careful not to overmix.

Form the Meatballs: Using a cookie scoop or your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake the Meatballs: Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until they are browned and cooked through.

Prepare the Marinara Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat until simmering. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Combine and Cheese: Once the meatballs are done, carefully remove them from the oven. Pour the warm marinara sauce over the meatballs in a baking dish, and sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on top.

Final Bake: Return the meatballs to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving. Enjoy your delicious Baked Neapolitan Meatballs!
