Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Cookie Dough Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), softened

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.

    Prepare the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium saucepan, melt the 1 cup of butter over medium heat. Once melted, remove it from the heat and stir in the granulated sugar until well combined.

        - Allow it to cool for a few minutes, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

          - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing until just combined.

            - Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.

              Prepare the Cookie Dough Layer:

                - In a large bowl, beat together the softened 1/2 cup butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

                  - Add in the egg and vanilla extract and mix until well combined.

                    - In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

                      Assemble the Layers:

                        - Using a spoon or your hands, drop dollops of the cookie dough over the brownie layer. It doesn’t have to cover it completely; you can leave some brownie showing for a marbled effect.

                          - Gently press the cookie dough down into the brownie layer to help them meld together.

                            Bake:

                              - Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 28-32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

                                - Be careful not to overbake, as the brownies will continue to set as they cool.

                                  Cool and Serve:

                                    - Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 20-30 minutes before carefully lifting them out using the parchment paper, if used. Cut into squares and enjoy!
