Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup beef broth

3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon ketchup

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

4 hamburger buns

2 tablespoons olive oil

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Sauté the Aromatics: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

Brown the Beef: Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

Add the Flavor: Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Simmer the Mix: Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Incorporate the Cheese: Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and well combined.

Toast the Buns (Optional): While the meat mixture cools, consider toasting the hamburger buns in a separate skillet or under the broiler until golden brown.

Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spoon a generous portion of the beef and cheddar mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with the other half of the bun.

Serve: Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired, and serve the Sloppy Joes hot alongside your favorite sides, like coleslaw or potato chips.
