Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup minced onion

1 egg, beaten

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

2 cups beef broth

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1/4 cup water

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Beef Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, minced onion, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until everything is well combined.

Form Patties: Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties, roughly 1-inch thick. Press gently in the center to create a slight indentation (this helps them cook evenly).

Cook the Patties: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties carefully. Cook for about 5 minutes on each side until they're nicely browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside on a plate.

Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, add the beef broth while scraping the bottom to incorporate the flavorful brown bits from the patties. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Gradually whisk the slurry into the broth.

Add Flavor: Stir in the soy sauce, Dijon mustard, and dried thyme. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Allow the gravy to simmer for about 5 minutes or until it thickens to your desired consistency.

Return Patties to Skillet: Place the cooked patties back into the skillet with the gravy. Spoon some of the gravy over the top of the patties and let simmer for an additional 3-5 minutes to infuse the flavors.

Serve: Transfer the Salisbury steaks to a serving plate, smother them in gravy, and garnish with chopped parsley.

Enjoy: Serve hot with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a fresh salad for a comforting meal.
