Crispy Air Fryer Tofu Nuggets

14 oz extra-firm tofu, drained and pressed

1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)

½ cup cornstarch

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon smoked paprika

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon olive oil or sesame oil

Cooking spray for air frying

Prepare the Tofu: After pressing the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture, cut it into bite-sized cubes (about 1-inch pieces). Pat dry with paper towels to ensure maximum crispiness.

    Create the Coating: In a large bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using) until well combined.

      Marinate the Tofu: In a separate bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and olive oil. Add the cubed tofu into the marinade, gently tossing to coat all sides. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to absorb the flavors.

        Coat the Tofu: Once marinated, take each piece of tofu and roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to ensure an even coating. Place the coated nuggets aside on a plate.

          Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and preheat for about 5 minutes.

            Air Fry the Nuggets: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the tofu nuggets in a single layer (be careful not to overcrowd; air needs to circulate around the nuggets). Spray the tops of the nuggets with a little cooking spray for extra crispiness.

              Cooking Time: Air fry the nuggets at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. Cook until they are golden brown and crispy.

                Serve: Once cooked, remove the nuggets from the air fryer and let them cool for a minute. Serve them warm with your choice of dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce, tahini, or a vegan ranch dressing. Enjoy your crispy air fryer tofu nuggets!
