Ingredients

250g halloumi cheese, sliced into 1 cm thick sticks

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1 large egg, beaten

1 cup panko breadcrumbs (for extra crispiness)

Olive oil, for frying

Fresh lemon wedges, for serving

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare Halloumi: Start by patting the halloumi cheese slices dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will help achieve maximum crispiness.

Set Up Breading Station: In one shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. In a second shallow bowl, beat the egg. In a third shallow bowl, put the panko breadcrumbs.

Bread the Halloumi: First, dip each halloumi stick into the flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated. Shake off any excess flour. Next, dip it into the beaten egg, allowing the excess to drip off. Finally, roll the stick in the panko breadcrumbs until evenly coated.

Heat the Oil: In a large frying pan, heat about 1/4 inch of olive oil over medium-high heat. It’s ready when the oil shimmers but is not smoking.

Fry the Halloumi: Carefully add the breaded halloumi sticks to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Use tongs to flip them gently to avoid breaking.

Drain Excess Oil: Once cooked, transfer the crispy halloumi fries to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

Serve: Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve hot with fresh lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the fries. Enjoy your Crispy Greek Halloumi Fries!
