Ingredients

For the Crispy Tofu:

14 oz firm tofu

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying

For the Spicy Peanut Sauce:

1/3 cup creamy peanut butter

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)

1 teaspoon sriracha (adjust to taste)

2 tablespoons warm water (to thin the sauce)

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Chopped peanuts and green onions for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu:

    - Drain the tofu and press it under a weight (like a heavy pan) for about 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture. This step is crucial for achieving crispiness.

      - Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.

        Coat the Tofu:

          - In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

            - Toss the tofu cubes in the mixture until evenly coated.

              Fry the Tofu:

                - Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.

                  - Once hot, add the coated tofu cubes in a single layer (you may have to do this in batches) and fry until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

                    Make the Spicy Peanut Sauce:

                      - In a mixing bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, sriracha, and sesame oil until smooth. Adjust consistency with warm water, adding one tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired sauce thickness.

                        Serve:

                          - Arrange the crispy tofu on a serving platter. Drizzle generously with the spicy peanut sauce or serve it on the side for dipping.

                            - Garnish with chopped peanuts and sliced green onions.

                              Enjoy:

                                - Serve with steamed jasmine rice or sautéed vegetables for a complete meal!
