Ingredients

4 large whole wheat pita breads

1/4 cup olive oil

2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for a cheesy flavor)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cut each pita bread into quarters, creating triangular pieces. For extra crunch, feel free to cut the triangles into smaller pieces.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, sea salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.

Add the pita pieces to the bowl and toss them in the oil mixture until evenly coated.

Spread the seasoned pita pieces in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Ensure they are not overlapping for even cooking.

Optionally, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the pita pieces for a cheesy twist.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, stirring halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.

Once done, remove from the oven and let the croutons cool on the baking sheet for another 5 minutes. They will continue to crisp up as they cool down.

Store your crunchy pita bread croutons in an airtight container if not using immediately. They should stay fresh for up to a week!
