Ingredients

For the Chicken:

1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs (cut into bite-sized pieces)

1/2 cup cornstarch

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Marinade:

1 egg (lightly beaten)

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice wine (or dry sherry)

1 tablespoon sesame oil

For the Sauce:

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup chicken broth

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch (mixed with 2 tablespoons water to form a slurry)

2 cloves garlic (minced)

1-inch piece ginger (grated)

1-2 teaspoons red pepper flakes (adjust for spice level)

2 green onions (sliced for garnish)

Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine the beaten egg, soy sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil. Add the chicken pieces and toss to coat. Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the Breading: In a shallow dish, combine cornstarch, flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Coat the Chicken: Remove chicken pieces from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring a good coating.

Fry the Chicken: In a large skillet or wok, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat (about 1 inch deep). Once hot, carefully add the coated chicken in batches, frying until golden brown and cooked through (about 4-5 minutes per batch). Use a slotted spoon to transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

Make the Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, chicken broth, rice vinegar, sugar, hoisin sauce, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, and cook until heated through. Add the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens (about 2-3 minutes).

Combine: In the skillet with the fried chicken, pour the sauce and toss everything together until evenly coated.

Serve: Transfer the General Tso's Chicken to a serving plate, garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Enjoy with steamed rice or your favorite side dish!
