Ingredients

4 large pieces of French bread (or Ciabatta)

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup marinara sauce (plus more for serving)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

¼ cup fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)

3 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare Bread Boats: Slice the French bread in half lengthwise. Carefully hollow out the center of each piece, creating a boat for the filling. You can save the bread you remove for breadcrumbs or another recipe.

Make the Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Add Marinara: Fold in ¾ cup of marinara sauce into the cheese mixture, making sure it's evenly distributed.

Fill the Boats: Spoon the cheese and marinara mixture generously into each hollowed-out bread piece. Top with remaining marinara sauce if desired.

Add More Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese on top of each filled bread boat.

Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine olive oil and red pepper flakes (if using). Brush the garlic-infused oil over the crust of each bread boat to enhance flavor.

Bake: Place the filled bread boats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, sprinkle with fresh basil, and let cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
