When preparing the Sizzling Beef & Broccoli Delight, the method of cooking the beef and vegetables separately is crucial. This approach ensures that each ingredient retains its optimal texture and flavor. Cooking the beef independently allows it to sear properly, developing a delicious crust while keeping the interior tender and juicy. Conversely, cooking the broccoli separately helps maintain its bright green color and crisp-tender texture, avoiding the mushiness that can occur when overcooked.

Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

3 cups broccoli florets

1 red bell pepper, sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece of fresh ginger, minced

1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon honey

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)

1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed in 2 tablespoons water

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)

Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Sesame seeds and chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, and black pepper. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.

Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, and cornstarch mixture. Set aside.

Sauté the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer (work in batches if necessary) and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Stir-Fry the Vegetables: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the broccoli florets and red bell pepper. Stir-fry for about 4-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp. You can add a splash of water and cover for a couple of minutes to help steam them.

Combine Ingredients: Return the beef back to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour in the sauce mixture and add crushed red pepper flakes if desired. Stir continuously for another 2-3 minutes until the beef is cooked through and the sauce thickens.

Serve: Remove from heat and serve immediately over cooked rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
