Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tablespoon orange zest (freshly grated)

1/4 cup fresh orange juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Optional: 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Add Egg and Flavors: Add the egg, orange zest, fresh orange juice, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture. Beat until well combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. If desired, fold in the chopped walnuts or pecans for added crunch.

Scoop the Dough: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may appear soft but will firm up as they cool.

Cool and Dust: Remove cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness.

Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy your freshly baked orange cookies with a cup of tea or coffee for the perfect sweet treat!
