Ingredients

500g ground beef (keema)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 medium tomatoes, pureed

2-3 green chilies, slit

1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon garam masala

Salt to taste

1/2 cup peas (fresh or frozen)

2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional)

Water as needed

Instructions

Heat the Oil: In a large pan or kadhai, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.

Sauté Onions: Add the finely chopped onion to the pan. Sauté until it turns golden brown, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.

Add Ginger-Garlic Paste: Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.

Incorporate Spices: Add in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste. Cook for about 2 minutes to allow the spices to bloom.

Add Pureed Tomatoes: Pour in the tomato puree and mix well. Cook until the oil begins to separate from the mixture, about 5-7 minutes.

Cook the Beef: Add the ground beef (keema) to the pan. Stir well to combine, breaking up any clumps. Cook until the beef is browned and no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes.

Add Green Chilies and Peas: Mix in the slit green chilies and peas, along with a splash of water if the mixture is too dry. Cover and let it simmer for another 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Finish with Garam Masala: Sprinkle the garam masala and mix well. Let it cook for an additional 5 minutes to enhance the flavors.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat. Garnish with fresh cilantro and drizzle lemon juice if desired. Serve hot with naan or steamed rice.
