Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (or turkey for a leaner option)

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 bell pepper, diced (red or green)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup tomato sauce

1/4 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

4 hamburger buns

Olive oil (for cooking)

Sliced pickles (optional, for serving)

Chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Sauté the Vegetables: In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, cooking for about 3-4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Brown the Meat: Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet. Break it up with a spatula and cook until fully browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Create the Sloppy Joe Sauce: Reduce the heat to medium. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt. Mix well until the meat is fully coated.

Simmer: Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens slightly and the flavors meld together. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Toast the Buns (Optional): While the meat is simmering, you can toast the hamburger buns on a separate skillet or in a toaster until golden brown.

Assemble: Spoon a generous portion of the Sloppy Joe mixture onto each toasted bun. Top with sliced pickles and sprinkle with fresh parsley for added flavor and presentation.

Serve & Enjoy: Present your BBQ Sloppy Joes on a platter and enjoy them warm. Serve with a side of fries, coleslaw, or your favorite chips for the perfect meal!
