Ingredients

1 lb ground beef or a mix of beef and pork

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup milk

1 large egg

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon allspice

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (plus more for garnish)

12 oz egg noodles

2 tablespoons butter

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 cup sour cream

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped (optional)

Optional toppings: crispy fried onions or additional cheese

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

    Prepare the Meatballs:

      - In a large bowl, combine ground beef (or the meat mix), breadcrumbs, milk, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, allspice, salt, pepper, and parsley.

        - Mix until just combined. Do not overmix to keep the meatballs tender.

          - Form the mixture into small meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter).

            Cook the Meatballs:

              - In a large skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium heat.

                - Add the meatballs in batches and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Transfer them to a plate and set aside.

                  Prepare the Noodles:

                    - Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the egg noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set them aside.

                      Make the Sauce:

                        - In the same skillet used for the meatballs, melt butter over medium heat.

                          - Stir in flour, whisking constantly for about 1 minute to make a roux.

                            - Gradually add beef broth while whisking to avoid lumps, followed by heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and nutmeg. Continue stirring until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.

                              Combine and Assemble:

                                - Add the drained noodles and sour cream to the sauce in the skillet, mixing well to combine.

                                  - Gently fold in the cooked meatballs, ensuring they are coated with the sauce.

                                    - Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish and evenly sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.

                                      Bake:

                                        - Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.

                                          Garnish and Serve:

                                            - Once out of the oven, allow to cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley or dill and consider adding a sprinkle of crispy fried onions or additional cheese for an extra touch.

                                              - Serve warm and enjoy this comforting Swedish-inspired dish!
